“I was always the prototypical scrawny computer guy that spent minimal time on a treadmill and maintaining my fitness level (or lack thereof), rather than improving it. My wife, Lyndsey, convinced me to go to some crazy new thing called CrossFit…I thought we were going to a TRX-type thing with the bands. I humored her and we walked into an old automotive garage with beastly dudes throwing around weights and swinging from rings. This wasn’t the thing with the bands.
My first class kicked my butt…hard. I didn’t know what had just happened, but I knew that I wanted to keep doing it (once I caught my breath).
Everyone speaks ad nauseam about the physical benefits of CrossFit, so I’ll spare you the “you’ll look great naked” spiel that you can find anywhere on the Internet. Instead, CrossFit brought something out in me that I never thought I had, confidence. CrossFit took me out of my comfort zone (daily) and I quickly realized that I was capable of more than I ever could have imagined. The fact that I started from having 0 strength is truly a testament that CrossFit can really work for anyone. None of this would be possible without the amazing community that CrossFit has developed and is what keeps me coming back for more. I love seeing everyone’s smiling faces and am the first to give a high-five, because I’ve been in their shoes and know how great it feels to achieve something you thought was impossible.
A lot of people ask why I coach. It’s not a simple question to answer, but for me, I want everyone that comes through those doors to experience CrossFit the same way I did. Have fun every day, meet new people, embrace the suck, and always celebrate accomplishments…oh yeah, and get weird.”
