I Joined Train Because of FOMO (and I’m So Glad I Did)

Allison 3

Allison here to talk about how Bring a Friend Week can save lives! Just kidding – but it really did help me find a new sense of community and confidence that has become a huge part of my life.

A few summers ago, my wife Paige decided she wanted to change gyms after feeling like she’d plateaued at the gym we were both attending. She joined Train and tried to convince me to come check it out, but I was way too intimidated. CrossFit, in my mind, was for really fit people who flipped tires and walked on their hands, and I was sure I wouldn’t be able to keep up.

Then something happened that most millennial women can probably relate to: I got major FOMO (fear of missing out).

I felt like I was missing out on nights when Paige went to class, stayed late to chat, made plans to grab coffee, and signed up for volleyball tournaments. After months of my FOMO building, Bring a Friend Week rolled around. It sounded like a casual, low-stakes way to give Train a try.

And it didn’t take long for me to realize there was nothing to be afraid of.

Everyone was kind and welcoming. The coaches were approachable and knew exactly how to scale things to each person. And Jimmy went out of his way to make sure everything ran smoothly and people felt taken care of.

I came to three classes during Bring a Friend Week, and before I knew it, I was doing On-Ramp with Abby.

Paige has been getting stronger and hitting new PRs at the gym for almost three years now, and I’m right behind her with two and a half years under my belt. Thanks to Paige’s persistence and my FOMO, I found a community of people I genuinely look forward to sweating in front of.

And no one – not even one person – has ever asked me to flip a tire. Not even once.

Thanks, Bring a Friend Week!
